1970's

70 Daniel M. Lauber, AB'70, received the American Planning Association's 1998 Paul Davidoff award for his support of planning to help minorities, the disabled, and low-income households.

71 Frederic H. Cogelow, AB'71, displayed a wood carving-"Diggin' Chicks in the Cow Barn," carved from an 18-by-10-inch piece of butternut-at the Kandiyohi (MN) County Fair in August 1997. Gary A. Curtis, AB'71, is senior vice president of The Boston Consulting Group, with worldwide responsibility for its information technology practice. In June, he and his wife, Rhydonia Ring, moved from Kenilworth, IL, to Orinda, CA. Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia, appointed Brian Dibble, AM'65, PhD'71, director of research and graduate studies in the humanities. He is professor of comparative literature at Curtin.

72 College alumni-Dorthea H. Juul, AB'72, PhB'89, writes: From Philadelphia, Angel L. Franqui, Jr., AB'72, reports that he is married to Deborah E. Solo, AB'73, and they are the parents of Alex, 13, and Leah, 10. David C. Goldman, AB'72, has been living in San Francisco since 1973. He and his domestic partner, Kenneth M. Koehn, have been married for ten years. David teaches high-school mathematics and is a faculty co-sponsor of the Gay/Straight Alliance at his high school. Hoping to live a bicoastal existence, he has purchased an oceanfront condominium in South Beach, FL. The future may also hold laser eye surgery-David remarks, "Will wonders ever cease?" Mark D. Israel, AB'72, has been a community pediatrician for the past eight years. He and his wife, a teacher, have three children-Hannah, 14, Ben, 12, and Noah, 10. Their family has done a lot of hiking, camping, and cross-country skiing, and two summers ago they climbed their first "15er" (14,000 foot peak). Via e-mail from the Upper West Side of New York, James Jubak, AB'72, describes himself as being late for almost everything these days because of 3-year-old Finn. He recently marked his first anniversary at Microsoft. His column on the stock market, "Jubak's Journal," appears twice a week on the Microsoft Investor Web page. 73 Ellen Goldfluss Oran Kadan, AM'73, is now senior vice president of law and government affairs at the Campbell Soup Company. She had been executive vice president, general counsel, and secretary at CBS.

74 The Class of 1974 celebrates its 25th reunion on June 4-6, 1999. Timothy M. George, AB'74, MBA'75; John J. Mickevice, Jr, AB'74, MBA'75; and Shelley Drew Mickevice, AB'74, MBA'75, are members of the Class of 1974 reunion committee, and welcome help with reunion planning.

76 Vernon P. Dorweiler, MBA'76, associate professor of management and law at Michigan Technological University, published a two-part paper titled "Global Warming: Science or Politics" in the April and May issues of Hydrocarbon Processing, a journal of the petroleum industry. After working on the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope in Hawaii for 14 years as a "software person," Etta Davis McGregor-Jones, AM'76, the CEO and founder of The Family Link, Inc., of Chicago, was named co-chair of the Child Welfare League of America's national advisory committee on cultural competence.

Cookson, PhD'77, is now professor of distance education and associate academic vice president of Athabasca University, "Canada's Open University," in Athabasca, Alberta. His book, Beyond Instruction: Comprehensive Program Planning for Business and Education, was published in April 1997 by Jossey-Bass.

78 College alumni-Kent Maynard, AB'78, MBA'81, writes: Jonathan D. Haskett, AB'78, reports that he is on the research faculty of the University of Maryland, "doing research on climate-change detection using satellite remote sensing and having transcendental experiences at Funkadelic concerts." When not working with Landsat 7 to create a long-term global archive of vegetation dynamics, he builds large musical instruments out of PVC pipe. Carol Burnside Choksy, AB'78, AM'79, PhD'87, heads her own information-management consulting firm in suburban Indianapolis. Husband Jamsheed is a tenured professor in Near Eastern languages and cultures at Indiana University-Bloomington. Their son Darius, 2 1/2, is a world traveler. He enjoys riding elephants in Sri Lanka and "kicking back at the Taj Mahal hotel, where he always stays in Bombay. If only he would sleep in his own bed!" Robert P. Chitwood, AB'78, is psychological-services director at South Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center, a forensic hospital in Miami, FL. Chitwood also maintains a small private practice in psychological and neuropsychological assessment. He continues to enjoy "the exciting and bizarre cultural life that Florida offers." Camille Zakrzewski George, AB'78, will be living in France and working at the University of Limoges for the next six months. Camille adds that she has a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and four children.

Michael J. O'Kane, AB'77, has a personal homepage at URL http://aztec.newscom.com/ ~mikeo/index.htm. The site, originally conceived as a place to discuss federal criminal-defense topics, is "now part of a larger enterprise, much of which has nothing to do with the law." Philip S. Schwarz, SB'78, works for Fidelity Investments in Boston as a software architect. Philip's wife, Susan, is a health-care administrator. Philip serves on the board of the Asperger's Association of New England (http:// www.autocyt.com/aane), and has found the Internet a valuable resource on issues concerning his son, Jeremy, 7, who has a form of high-functioning autism. His wife and his daughter, Rachel, 9, "also find cool things on the Net :-)." Jane E. Salk, AB'78, reports that after receiving a Ph.D. from MIT and spending four years as an assistant professor at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, she moved to Paris, where she is an associate professor at a "Grande Ecole." "Beyond the obvious charm of living in the center of a beautiful city," Jane writes, "Paris as a home also allows me to visit and work in Germany, where I had earlier lived and been a Fulbright scholar." Christopher S. Corbett, AB'78, is managing editor and senior writer for International Christian Media, and lives near Dallas with his wife, Karen, and two children, Stanley, 7, and Carolyn, 5. The "biggest event" since graduation, he writes, was "coming to accept Christ as Savior, knowing His love and forgiveness and eternal life!" Christopher's e-mail address is chris@ usaradio.com. Kenneth V. DiGiulio, X'78, works at Tellabs with SAP software and still plays guitar in his spare time. Ken also writes music for TV shows. Ellen B. Tabor, AB'78, lives in New York with her husband and 3-year-old son. She is the director of acute psychiatric services at University Hospital, New Jersey Medical School, in Newark, NJ. Her main "non-family, non-work commitments" have been learning Spanish and following the Yankees. She hopes to coach Little League when her son is old enough to play. Robert L. Pego, AB'78, professor of mathematics at the University of Maryland in College Park since 1994, lives and cycles in Silver Spring with wife Eleanor Mayfield. Judith S. Hedstrom, AB'78, MBA'86, lives in the D.C. area and works in the health-care consulting practice of McKinsey & Company. 79 The Class of 1979 celebrates its 20th reunion on June 4-6, 1999. Michele H. Bogart, AM'75, PhD'79, a professor of art history at SUNY-Stony Brook, has been appointed to the Art Commission of the City of New York, a municipal design review agency.
