Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is a new method of radiation delivery that shapes the high dose region to tumor while reducing the volume of normal tissue irradiated. This text discusses the fundamentals of IMRT, including the physics, biology, and medicine, and provides a site-by-site review (i.e. prostate, breast, etc.) of treatment techniques and outcomes. Clinical case studies are presented for each site along with emerging technologies that will advance the field in the future.
