In Their Own Words

Michael Amaral, U of C Neurosurgical Program’86

As we age, our bodies change. Physical abilities are no longer what they once were. Injuries occur more easily and take longer to heal. To think that we can ignore aging and continue to exercise and live in the same way we always have is a great mistake. Changes in our routines must be made and our goals must be different. Instead of fighting aging, a more useful approach is to understand how the body changes and use this knowledge to slow aging down and even reverse it. No longer should we work out to be the strongest or to develop hypertrophied muscles. Instead, we can now aspire to have a well-toned, well-proportioned body in which we can enjoy living healthy and disease free lives. Being 81, Feeling 18 gives the means to accomplish this goal.
