EDITOR’S PICKS

Write for a real-world magazine this summer.

Applications due Thursday, March 5

As a University of Chicago Magazine intern, you’ll report, write, edit, and blog, helping to create a bimonthly publication. Internship runs June 22–Sept. 18 at the Magazine’s offices in downtown Chicago at 401 N. Michigan Avenue.

Interested students should apply through Chicago Career Connection at CAPS. In addition to your resume and cover letter, please upload one to three writing samples. Multiple writing samples/clips should be put in one document and uploaded as a "writing sample." Applicants must be undergraduates returning to the College in fall 2009.

“My internship was an intense, wonderful education in writing and editing. The skills I gained have been invaluable, even outside of journalism.” —Daniel Reinhard, AB’04, office manager for Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects, New York

“My internship at the Magazine was the best writing and editing class I’ve ever taken. The environment was fun, entrepreneurial, and productive. To each work and school environment I’ve been in since, I’ve tried to bring a bit of that Magazine spirit.” —Meredith Meyer Grelli, AB’06, MBA student at Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business

“I am a much better, more meticulous editor today because of the devotion to detail I practiced as a Magazine intern.” —Sean Ahmed, AB’06, editorial project specialist for the Chicago Cubs

“The internship gave me great hands-on experience coming up with story ideas, fact-checking, understanding the editing process. When all your other writing samples are college essays and unpublished stories, it’s really nice to have a clip from a professional magazine to round out your portfolio.” —Leila Sales, AB’06, editorial assistant at Penguin Young Readers Group

“There aren’t many internships that pay you to interview foie gras chefs, attend polo tournaments, and spend afternoons with Miss America contestants.” —Hassan Ali, AB’07, former Current TV Web/TV producer, Chicago
