Mathematician Will Return to Chicago as President
On March 10 the University of Chicago Board of Trustees unanimously
named Brown University provost and former Chicago professor Robert J.
Zimmer to succeed Don Michael Randel at the University's helm.

A search is under way to find a successor for Michael C. Riordan as
U of C Hospitals head. Riordan, who'd held the post since 2001, announced

* Humans and Chimpanzees Share 99 Percent of their Genes
So why do the two differ so widely in anatomy and behavior? Researchers
at Chicago, Yale, and Australia's Hall Institute used gene-array technology
to show that differences in gene regulation, rather than in individual
genes, created the divergences. For more on the study, reported in the

New Look at Nubia's Ancient Civilization
The February 25 opening of the Oriental Institute Museum’s new
Robert F. Picken Family Nubian Gallery marked the conclusion of the
museum’s 10-year, $15-million renovation and redesign—as
well as a century of University expeditions in Nubia (now Sudan), an
ancient African civilization with important connections to Egypt:
