"Writers' rights to copyright"

As an old Div School student I was appalled to have Professor Murrin ("Coursework," April/01) complain about being "hampered" in texts he wanted to use by copyright law! As an author I am only too aware of the fight we and writers' organizations like the Authors Guild have to wage to prevent copyright infringement right and left-the naive idea that it's easy to copy so let's use it seems to be an epidemic in, of all places, churches and universities. It's time serious thought was given to the rights of the writers whose livelihood it is!
