and Crossroads: The Buddhist Art of Ancient Gandhara,
through October 7. The mountainous region of ancient Gandhara
(today encompassing parts of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and northwest
India) flourished from the first through the sixth centuries
and was known for its commingling of eastern and western cultural
and artistic traditions. This exhibition explores the sources
that helped shape Gandharan sculpture and the larger phenomenon
of cross-cultural appropriation in ancient Eurasia. Smart Museum;

films on ancient Near Eastern history, art, and archaeology
are followed by guided tours of the Museum galleries-all for
free. Film subjects include Iraq, Egypt, the pharaohs and their

Stuart, September 6-October 14. The first production
of Court Theatre's 2001-2002 season is based on one of history's
most intriguing dramas. Set in the last days of Mary Stuart,
the deposed Queen of Scots, the Friedrich Schiller play imagines
the deadly struggle between Stuart and her cousin Queen Elizabeth
