1970s

Peter L. Ratner, AB'71, of New York, died June 22. He was 48. Survivors include his parents and a brother, Richard A. Ratner, AB'62.

Brian A. Stonehill, AM'74, PhD'78, a professor of English and media studies at Pomona College in California, died August 6 in an automobile accident. He was 43. After joining the Pomona faculty in 1979, Stonehill thrice won that school's Wig Award for distinguished teaching. A regular commentator on Voice of America's French program "Antenne USA," Stonehill hosted a weekly talk show on Claremont Colleges Television. At his death, he was both writing a novel and seeking a publisher for a completed manuscript on visual literacy. Stonehill also created award-winning laserdiscs and directed the creation of critically acclaimed Web sites, including the Thomas Pynchon Page and the On-line Visual Literacy Project. He is survived by his parents and a sister.
