1980s

David C. Ewart, SM'80, of Red Wing, MN, died March 11. He is survived by his wife, Claire Victoria ("Vicky") Thomas, AB'76, MD'80; three children; his mother; and a brother.

Edward J. Lewis II, JD'84, a lawyer with the firm Jenner and Block, died August 17. He was 37. Winner of the 1994 Maurice Weigle award for exceptional contributions to the profession of law and to the community, Lewis provided legal counsel to the State of Illinois in civil rights cases and worked with the Midwest Immigrants Rights Center, winning several political asylum cases. Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline; three children; his parents; his grandmother; and a brother.

1990s

Donald L. MacMinn, SM'96, a doctoral student in astronomy and astrophysics, died August 30 at age 29. MacMinn was struck and killed by a truck while riding his bicycle near Genesco, IL. He was the 1995 recipient of the Gregor Wentzel prize for excellence in undergraduate teaching and tutored South Side elementary and high school students. Survivors include his mother and stepfather; his father and stepmother; a sister; his grandmother; and his fiancée, Neda Ulaby.
