Berry
breaks soccer record
Women's soccer tri--captain Jessica Berry became the leading female
goal scorer in U of C history as the Maroons defeated UAA rival
Carnegie Mellon, 2--0, at home on September 25. The 31st goal of
Berry's career--her fifth of the season--pushed the fourth--year
ahead of previous record--holder Katrina Schulte, AB'96, who amassed
30 goals from 1992 through 1995. As a whole, the team advanced
to the third round of the NCAA Division III championship before
falling to defending champ Macalester College, 2--0, on November
7.
Lui
takes tennis title
Fourth--year women's tennis player Karen Lui captured the individual
singles title at the 1999 ITA Midwest regional championships held
at Kenyon College October 1--3. She wrapped up her fall season
with a 13--2 record.
Cross--country
championships
Fourth--year Rhaina Echols captured the women's UAA individual
championship on October 30 at Carnegie Mellon with a first--place
finish in the 5K run. Third--year Margaret Bradley earned a spot
on the UAA First Team with her third--place finish, and fourth--year
Tobias Switzer earned First Team status with a seventh--place finish
in the men's 8K race. The women's team placed fourth at the 1999
championships, while the men's team finished sixth.
Flair
on the football field
Six football players were selected to the 1999 All--University
Athletic Association First Team. The team's defense ranked among
the top 20 NCAA Division III teams in five categories: pass efficiency,
turnover margin, scoring, rushing, and total defense. Chicago
posted a 5--4 overall record in 1999, marking its third consecutive
winning season.
