Collectors
we missed
Your
feature "Collective Efforts" (October/01) struck a responsive
chord. My husband was out of town when it arrived, and I read
sections aloud over the telephone so he did not have to wait to
hear about the joys of collecting bobbers and ceramic cow creamers.
He has a heightened sensitivity to matched sets of acquisitions.
He lives with a woman who studied fungal genetics at the University
of Chicago and who has been collecting mycological kitsch ever
since.

The
article about the collecting interests of U of C alumni was most
interesting. I have been a longtime collector of items associated
with Chicago's postal history, having published three books on
this subject. My long-standing interest extends to material associated
with Chicago schools and colleges. My collection of postcards
showing buildings and scenes of the University of Chicago campus
now numbers about 450, and there is always another card to be
acquired.
