LETTERS
The simple truth?

I read Prof. John Mearsheimer's article "Liberal Talk, Realist Thinking" (February/02) with interest and then waited to see the letters in reply dissect it.

The reply he deserved was a quote from H. L. Mencken: "To every complex question there is a simple answer-and it's always wrong." Mearsheimer states that liberals say one thing and do another and that they-and all nations as well-use aggressive power to seek to achieve their security, despite whatever they might say high-mindedly. That's the same as saying all human beings are the same and all human beings think alike and act out of identical motives. What rubbish!
