Ratner pushes Chicago Initiative past $1.5 billion mark
An April gift of $6 million from Chicago attorney Gerald Ratner, PhB’35, JD’37, pushed the $2 billion Chicago Initiative capital campaign past the $1.5 billion mark. Receiving $1 million, the Smart Museum of Art will name a gallery in honor of Ratner’s late wife, Eunice Payton Ratner, while the Law School will use its $5 million to establish the Gerald Ratner distinguished service professorship. And if the name sounds familiar, he earlier gave $15 million toward the Gerald Ratner Athletics Center, which opened in 2003.
