Destined for greatness
The U of C football team is on a roll. The University Athletic
Association's preseason coaches' poll predicted a second-place
finish for the Maroons, who won the UAA championship this past
year. The Football Gazette named Arlen Wiley, '02, and
Rick Lloyd, '02, to the Preseason All-America Team. Even the
programs printed for football games won a Second-in-Nation award
from the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Hey,
coach!
Seven new recruits join the coaching ranks this year. Chris
Hall, former head coach for men's and women's cross-country
and men's track & field at the University of Wisconsin-Stout,
was named head coach of men's and women's cross-country and
track & field. Maggie Zdziarska, a former coach for the Maroons'
hurdlers and sprinters, is now assistant coach for men's and
women's cross-country and track & field. Dorinda von Tersch,
a former head coach for women's volleyball at Colgate University,
now holds the same position at the U of C. The football team
also has four new assistant coaches: Andy Drude, Ted Stanley,
Ethan Karolczak, and John J. Carrey, AB'99, who all held the
same post at other schools.
Soccer team scores trip
The men's soccer team toured the United Kingdom for 11 days
in August, playing against four professional youth teams in
Scotland, Wales, and England. Head coach John O'Connor says
being in a soccer-immersed culture will get his players excited
and help them play better this fall.
