Consubstantiality
at Chicago
It
was a rare treat for me to read the article by David Forbes, "My
life as a mind-and body" in the April/02 issue, in part because
his lucid account of life at the U of C between 1967 and 1971 so much resembled
my own experiences. Those days at the U of C were certainly some of the most important
ones of my life. The atmosphere was optimal for me as a graduate student in the
psychology department; everyone was "doing their own thing" in such
a strange way that the campus had an indescribable unity-a consubstantiality of
purpose-involved in providing an environment for original thinking. I am grateful
to the author for sharing his past with me.
