The Right Thing

Pop icon and film director-producer Spike Lee visited the South Side in March to speak with some 300 Chicago Public School students, including 75 enrolled in the University’s Collegiate Scholars Program. During his talk Lee urged the students, gathered at the Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men in Ingleside, to thank their teachers and staff for all they do: “Their riches come with the richness of your mind.” In a post-lecture reception, Lee fielded questions on film-making, college, and sports—the New Yorker even teased the students about the Chicago Bears and Cubs.
