Peer review: Emma Bee Bernstein, AB’07

Photographer Emma Bee Bernstein, AB’07, was “a voracious worker,” says Laura Letinsky, chair of the Department of Visual Arts. Bernstein, who committed suicide in December 2008 while interning at Venice’s Peggy Guggenheim Collection, photographed mostly women—herself and her peers, says Letinsky, who has cocurated a February exhibit on campus featuring Bernstein’s work. For a 2004 series, Bernstein photographed the same woman, Jill (at right), in different poses and settings, all in muted earth tones. See “On Exhibit.”
