Family Adventure in Hyde Park
July 23. 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Chicago Cultural Center, Visitor Information Center. 312.741.8497. After meeting at the Cultural Center, the tour heads to Hyde Park to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House and the Oriental Institute, where children ages 6-and-up can experience a hands-on archaeological dig and a museum scavenger hunt. Pre-registration required; including lunch and transportation, cost is $12 per person.


Smart Sounds with the Corey Wilkes Quartet
August 15. 2 p.m. Smart Museum of Art, 773.324.8614. The Chicago trumpeter will play a free concert in the Smart Museum's sculpture garden as part of Hyde Park's yearlong Passport to Jazz series.

Pearl Fest
August 21. Mandrake Park. 773.285.1211. For 16 years Hyde Park-based nonprofit Little Black Pearl has worked to cultivate creativity through the community arts. Its annual festival features live music, food, and art vendors, with activities for all ages.

The Bells in Summer
Through August 22. 6 p.m. Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. 773.702.2100. Every Sunday Rockefeller Chapel's Carillon Festival, now in its 45th year, invites guest artists from the United States and Europe to play the 72-bell instrument. Preconcert tower tours begin at 5:30 p.m.

Hyde Park Jazz Fest
September 25. Multiple locations. 773.324.8614. The Hyde Park Jazz Festival returns for its fourth year, featuring 15 hours of free performances by more than 100 local and visiting performers, including trumpeter Orbert Davis and pianist Willie Pickens. Dee Alexander will lead the midnight jam session at International House. The main stage is on the Midway Plaisance, and a free trolley service takes listeners to other Hyde Park venues.

Roger Brown: Calif. U.S.A.
Through October 3. Hyde Park Art Center. 773.324.5520. Chicago Imagist Roger Brown was a collector as well as an artist. Placing domestic ceramics on shelves in front of his vibrant paintings, "Calif. U.S.A." shows Brown's process of collecting and arranging.

61st Street Farmers Market
Through October 30. 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Experimental Station. 773.241.6044. The Experimental Station, at 61st Street between Dorchester and Blackstone avenues, heads outdoors every Saturday with local produce, fresh fruit and flowers, and organic cheeses and meats (see "Trading spaces").
