Painted memoirs

As a child Plamena Pehlivanova, AB’09, attended gatherings in her great-grandparents’ Bulgarian mountain village. “A woman would sing her heart out to an extent that tears would drip from her face,” Pehlivanova says. “I remember the sincerity, their intense connection to one another, and how they revealed emotion in dance or song.” Paintings from Memoirs of a Forgotten Generation hang in Regenstein Library through March 19.
