President Sonnenschein decides seventh year will be his last: President Hugo F. Sonnenschein has announced that his seventh year as Chicago’s president will also be his last. On June 30, 2000, he will return to teaching and research as a professor in economics at the University.

The other president—Bill Clinton—addresses College convocation: At this June’s College convocation, 789 graduates received congratulations from not one but two presidents—Hugo F. Sonnenschein and William Jefferson Clinton.

In their own words…: The commencement address by biologist Elaine Fuchs focused on how the graduates’ education has given them the ability to sculpt their own lives, while the bulk of President Bill Clinton’s speech focused on the global economy.
Trustees elect new chair and members, vote on GSB facility: The University’s Board of Trustees acquired two new members and a new chair at its June meeting. Edgar D. Jannotta, a trustee since 1984, succeeds Howard G. Krane, JD’57, who has served as chair since 1992.
On-line education plans in the works: This June, the University of Chicago signed an agreement with UNext.com, a privately held Internet education company based in Deerfield, IL, to develop on-line business courses, with the Graduate School of Business as the point of contact.
