In 1997, she became general counsel and secretary of Southern Pacific Funding Corporation, a public specialty finance company headquartered in Lake Oswego, OR. “This proves that you can get back into the fast track after jumping off, which may not be a good thing,” says Oliver, who adds that she’d rather be traveling in South America. Charles Schilke, AB’81, wrote this past fall, “Just got back from the second-annual Chicago Leadership Caucus—so great to have these events. While in Chicago, I had dinner with my old friends from the Chicago Debating Society—Joseph F. Griffin, AB’79, JD’82, and Cindy Lawson Griffin—and lunched with former student Jeremy Bates. I’m in my final year as president of the U of C Club of Washington, DC—one of the great learning experiences of my life.” Elizabeth Vila Rogan, AB’81, and her family have relocated from Atlanta to Connecticut. After taking two and a half years off to be at home with daughters Carolyn, 3, and Jenny, 2, she is slowly resuming her career and consulting for the Capital Defender in Hartford, CT, on death-penalty litigation.

Thanks to all those who responded to the October column’s plea for contact. I’m flattered to have heard from so many old boyfriends, though it may have more to do with their recurrent nightmares than with anything else. I’m planning a small phone blitz in early 1999, and those of you whom I knew personally, as enemy or friend, will be first up.
