College alumniKathleen Abbott, AB95, writes: For
all you investment bankers who sometimes feel like trying something
a little different...Tanya L. Garrett, AB95, writes
that Samuel S. Chong, AB95, is taking a break from
investment banking to follow his true love, ballet dancing. Having
studied dance from a young age, he is an accomplished ballet dancer
and choreographer. Most recently, he completed a dance adaptation
of Free Willy for a local ballet school for children. He
is also marketing the piece and auditioning for dance troupes in
the Chicago area. I am definitely happy that he is following his
heart and taking chances. Im sure that Sam would enjoy the
support of his fellow U of C alums. Those who are interested should
call Sam to find out about his next recital. Katherine Norem,
AB95, writes, Konnichiwa! I remember learning as a child
that if I dug a hole from my backyard and continued straight through
the earth and came out the other side, I would find myself in the
Indian Ocean. So it follows that anyone living in India deserves
the Farthest from Chicago award. But I live in Japan,
and this has to count for at least an honorable mention. Im
teaching English conversation in a suburb of Nagoya and have discovered
that I really miss snow (and English conversation!). Ill be
home soon. Congratulations to Hyeyoung Bang-Thompson,
AB95, and Gregory A. Thompson, AB94, who were
married on August 7. Groomsmen included best man Damian W. Grivetti,

the University of Utah and Hyeyoung is in her second year of law
school at Brigham Young University. They live in Draper, UT, and
love to ski. Amanda A. Geppert, AB95, has definitely
been keeping up with alumni relations! During the past year, she
worked at Colliers Cauble & Co., a commercial real-estate brokerage
in Atlanta, where, she writes, she was fortunate enough to
run into Carlton W. Basmajian, AB96, at an alumni event
at Emory in February. I am glad to report that Carlton has begun
graduate studies in urban planning at Georgia Tech this past fall.
Moreover, I am happy to report that I recently returned to the Windy
City to work for the Field Museum of Natural History as events coordinator
for institutional advancement. I am also excited for my closest

was recently promoted at Equity Office Properties Trust in Chicago.
Yay Meg! I have also been in regular contact with Bridget A.
Baker, AB95, who is finishing up her Peace Corps assignment

Morriss, AB93, on the Thanksgiving arrival of their beautiful

Law. She recently participated in the mock court-martial of Gen.
George Armstrong Custer, appearing for the defense. At the end of
the trial, the court sided with the prosecution. Scott D. Hajer,
