Virtual
Chicago
Since
its renovation in 1995, the Reynolds Club, on the corner of
57th Street and University Avenue, has increased its stature
as a place where students can grab some food, kick back, chat
with friends, and generally put academics out of their minds
for a while. If you're thinking that sounds rather un-Chicago,
then you should take a look for yourself.
The
student-run Reynolds Club Coffee Shop on the second floor (in
the former CAPS office) maintains a 24-hour Webcam on which
viewers can watch students-gasp-socialize.
The
café serves tea, coffee, soda, and candy, and a number
of Hyde Park restaurants deliver meals for lunch each weekday.
If watching people eat is not entertaining enough, the real-time
Webcam offers an excellent view of pool and foosball games in
progress, and quite a bit of shuffling about goes on at 5:30
p.m. That's when The Simpsons begins on the two television
sets, and the counter lowers its prices for Simpsons
Happy Hour.
Too
much to see Chicago students taking a break? Then tune in after
2 a.m. when the shop is closed and there's nothing to do but
study, study, study.
