Chicago
men's indoor track & field team won its first University Athletic
Association Championship. Individual athletes took first place
in several events, including second-year Patrick Sullivan in the
1,500-meter race (3:58:09), fourth-year Jerome Tharaud in the
5,000-meter race (14:58:56), fourth-year Keith Mastronardi in
the triple jump (14.28 m), and second-year Adeoye Mabogunje, who
set a UAA record in the high jump (2.08 m) and is ranked ninth
in the country in the high jump.

women on the court
Second-year
forward Angel Korer was voted to the All-University Athletic
Association women's basketball team. The Chicago women's basketball
team posted a 9-15 record, including 5-9 in UAA competition.
Men's
slam-dunking season
Third-year
forward Derek Reich earned an unprecedented third consecutive
Player of the Year Award for the All-UAA Men's team. Fourth-year
guards Justin Slaughter and Tyler Smithson were elected All-UAA
honorable mention picks. Chicago posted a 15-10 overall record
and finished third in the UAA with a 10-4 record.
Wrestling
with the champs
The
wrestling team placed second out of 13 teams with 115.5 points
at the 2002 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional. Third-year
Andy Bugajski, in the 149-lb. weight class, went on to compete
at the Division III Championship where he won two bouts before
being eliminated.

Anne Aydinian received the Freedom Forum/NCAA Foundation Scholarship
Award, a $3,000 award for a student interested in sports journalism.
Aydinian, a history concentrator and member of the varsity soccer
team, writes for the Maroon sports section.
