Crew makes the cut
Men’s crew made Chicago history
in October, snagging the school’s first-ever Head of the Charles
medal at the Boston regatta—the world’s largest two-day
rowing event. Fourth-year Mike Kelly (far left), second-year Danny
Wasserman, Graduate School of Business first-year Doug Rathburn,
and third-year Jeff Hreben beat 36 boats to place fifth and qualify
for next year’s race. “Medaling at the Head of the Charles
is the single greatest achievement of rowing at this University,”
head coach Jessica Vandevusse told the Chicago Maroon.
“It was a special time. They had a perfect race.” Women’s
crew also will compete in the 2004 regatta.—M.L.
