Research connects to care

The University broke ground October 17 on a new home for studying children’s health, cancer, pulmonary edema, and other medical specialties. Scheduled to open in 2008, the $162.5 million, ten-story Center for Biomedical Discovery will sit on Drexel Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets, connecting to both the Center for Integrative Science and Comer Children’s Hospital. About half the building will house the Institute for Molecular Pediatric Science, where physician-scientists will “explore childhood diseases at the most basic level,” said Steve Goldstein, chair of pediatrics and director of the institute.
