Valerie Snobeck, MFA’08, rarely exhibits the same piece twice—much of her work depends on its setting, inspired by the space between a gallery’s doors or between electrical sockets. The wood slats attached to the mirror above—from a fall installation of deconstructed mirrors, wood, and other materials at New York’s Renwick Gallery—she explains, “are the ratio of the marks in a small black tool hung near the thermostat in the gallery, used to repair watches, which has only the phrase ‘American Standard Movement.’”
