Future Dig

Chicago artist James Mesplé applies delicate touches to a mural he painted on a 16-foot steel beam. In a March 18 ceremony, the beam was embedded just under the slanted roof of the Oriental Institute's new wing. Although the mural-depicting some of the institute's ancient artifacts-won't be visible, it serves as a time capsule, providing future archaeologists with a message from today.
