Honoring John Hope Franklin
John Hope Franklin returned to campus
May 1–2 for “Race in the Making of American History:
Perspectives at the Onset of a New Century,” a conference
in his honor. The John Matthews Manly distinguished service professor
emeritus in history—a seminal scholar of African American
history—Franklin taught at Chicago from 1964 until 1982.
