Schroeder, AM'65, PhD'75, bids his secret identity adieu: http://magazine.uchicago.edu/0412/features/spy.shtml
* NEW ONLINE CATALOG OF ALUMNI BOOKS

http://magazine.uchicago.edu/books/

TODAY @ UChiBLOGo

NEWS FROM CHICAGO

* TWO FOR THE RHODES

Rhodes Scholarships. Receiving tuition and a living stipend for two
years of study, Desai will focus on modern European literature and
Oriental studies, while Kim will study international relations: http://chronicle.uchicago.edu/041202/rhodes.shtml
* HUMANITIES LUMINARIES HAVE CHICAGO TIES
Sharing the 2004 John W. Kluge Prize for Lifetime Achievement in the
Human Sciences--sometimes called the "Nobel Prize for the humanities"
and carrying a $1 million monetary award--are philosopher Paul Ricoeur,
the John Nuveen professor emeritus in the Divinity School, and

professor: http://www-news.uchicago.edu/releases/04/041130.kluge.shtml

RESEARCH AT CHICAGO

* BUSINESS ACROSS BORDERS
Chicago GSB professor Luigi Zingales studies cultural stereotypes to
better understand what makes the global economy tick: http://magazine.uchicago.edu/0412/research/trust.shtml
* A NEW WAY TO REPRESENT ELECTRONS
University of Chicago quantum chemist David Mazziotti has proposed a
method that dramatically reduces the amount of computer time and memory
needed to compute the electronic properties of a molecule. The approach
could lead to quicker solutions to problems in atmospheric chemistry,
combustion, and medicine: http://www-news.uchicago.edu/releases/04/041117.mazziotti.shtml

FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

* WELCOME HOME
A year has passed since Alumni House opened as your home on campus: a
place where you can relax with a cup of coffee, read the newspaper,
check your e-mail, send a fax, browse old yearbooks or new publications
by alumni and faculty, and visit with students and alumni. Stop by
soon, and be sure to pick up an Alumni House coaster while supplies
last. For our address and photos of the house, go to: http://www.alumni.uchicago.edu/aa-house.html
* LIFE FOR LIFE: OPTIONS FOR INSURANCE
Most people carry life insurance through their or their spouse's
employer, but with declining job security and shrinking benefit
packages, you could end up without adequate coverage. Last year the
Alumni Association introduced an enhanced life insurance plan offering
outstanding features and great rates. Alumni and their
families--including spouses, parents, and adult children--are eligible
to apply. For more information on life and short-term medical
insurance, visit:

YOUR CHICAGO CONNECTIONS

*****UCHICAGO.EDU is a joint project of the University of Chicago Magazine and the University of Chicago Alumni Association. Please send your comments and suggestions to uchicago-magazine@uchicago.edu.

*** If you do not want to receive mass e-mails from the University, please reply to this e-mail (uchicago-magazine@uchicago.edu) with your full name, e-mail address, and class/degree. This information, which will be used only to remove your name from the University's mass e-mail list, is needed because e-mail addresses are stored in our database based on a person's name and degree; there is no way to search the database using only an e-mail address.

*** If you are moving and want to update your address, please send an e-mail to alumni-gateway@uchicago.edu with your new contact information.

Please note: Because Uchicago.edu is an online news bulletin, some links may expire in the weeks and months after publication.
