MOTION: ALLEN LEADS HUMANITIES, LAWLOR LEAVES SSA
Danielle S. Allen--a professor in classics and political
science who also holds appointments in the College
and the Committee on Social Thought--begins a five-year
term as dean of the Humanities Division July 1. A
2001 winner of a MacArthur "genius" grant,
the 32-year-old Allen joined the Chicago faculty in

Edward Lawlor, dean of the School

FOR COSMOLOGICAL PHYSICS INSTITUTE
The University's Center for Cosmological Physics,
established by the National Science Foundation in
2001, will use $7.5 million in gifts from Fred Kavli
and the Kavli Foundation to continue research fusing
